Glaucoma

Glaucoma is typically described as high pressure in the eye that causes irreversible damage to the optic nerve.  When this damage occurs, the eye experiences blind spots that typically begin in the far peripheral vision.  However, the patient usually does not experience symptoms until the glaucoma is advanced and begins affecting the central vision – this is why it has been called the “silent thief” of sight and is one of the leading causes of blindness.

At Warrenville EyeCare, we understand that being diagnosed with glaucoma can raise a lot of questions. Dr. Nijm can help answer your questions and provide you with all your treatment options.  The good news is that if it is diagnosed early, many times the disease can be controlled and vision loss minimized.

If you have a family history of glaucoma or would like to be screened for glaucoma, please call today to schedule your appointment with Dr. Nijm at 630-393-7100.
