Cataracts

Warrenville EyeCare is dedicated to excellence in both the consultation and treatment of all types of cataracts.

A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye that occurs naturally with age.  As the lens becomes cloudier, less light reaches the back surface of the eye (retina) causing a decrease in vision.

Some early signs of cataracts include:

  • blurred or cloudy vision
  • night glare or haloes around lights
  • frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions
  • difficulty reading

At the time of your exam, Dr. Nijm will determine if these symptoms are really caused by a cataract or by another eye problem that may need treatment.

Dr. Nijm uses state-of-the-art equipment to diagnose and treat cataracts.  In early stages, simply changing the prescription of your glasses may be sufficient to treat the vision changes from a cataract.

In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the cataract.  Dr. Nijm utilizes the latest microsurgical techniques and offers patients the choice of the most advanced lens implants available, including those that decrease the need for distance and/or reading glasses after surgery.
